I meet women everyday who come into the gym and think they are going to lose fat and get toned by spending their time on a cardio machine. Unfortunately, I have to tell them if they actually do want to achieve their results successfully, spending their time on the cardio machine is not going to give them their goal result and they will be very disappointed if they don't step off the cardio machine, get out of their comfort zone and jump into the weight section!
I don't want to scare any ladies away, but in case you or another lady friend of yours hasn't got the memo yet, weight training is not going to be make you big and manly looking. Weight training will make a women look lean, toned and fit looking. It will also make a women stronger, confident, and powerful - inside and out!
If you don't understand how this works, let me simply explain it to you:
The body has fat cells and muscle cells. Fat cells take up more room on your body than muscle cells, which is why someone who has more muscle can weigh more than someone with more fat cells but looks smaller by the eye. When you're big, fat or obese, this means your fat cells are larger then your muscle cells. When you're small, lean and toned, this means your fat cells are smaller then you're muscle cells. The 'small, lean and toned' is the look many women strive for.
When you weight train training you grow your muscle cells. This also causes your metabolism to increase and your needed total daily calorie intake to increase. Which means, you are probably going to need to eat more to feed your fat burning body! How good is that? Wait, do you want me to repeat that: Eat more to get the 'small, lean and toned' look? Yes, that's correct. Yippie! No starvation diet needed!
To sum it up, weight training for women include the following:
-Lean and toned body shape
-Increased daily calorie intake which helps the body burn fat (on a healthy diet of course!)
-Muscle size cell growth
-Fat cell size decrease
Ladies, next time you walk into the gym, head straight to the weights!
